My Role: 2D Artist, Concept Artist, Animator, Designer, Writer Team: 5 people Target Audience: First Year University Students
Tool used: Procreate
This is an RPG-Adventure game with visual novel elements. The emphasis is on the story, so the gameplay is very limited with a simple inventory management system.
The game is meant to help first year university students cope with the challenges of living alone and getting used to a new life and environment, therefore the objectives they have throughout the game are based on real life tasks and follow the story line of a very likely series of events that may occur in a students life such as university drama, problems with assignments and so on.
During most of the gameplay, the game adopts a pixelated style, meant to encourage exploration.
The visual novel elements are only present when the player engages in conversation with a character in order to make the interaction more personal, or in key parts of the story to mark their importance. The characters also visually display different emotions based on what the player tells them, so the dialogue seems more human. As for the backgrounds, they are based on real life places in order to give off a certain feeling of realism.
The character designs are meant to visually show their personality at a first glance, so the colour schemes and their positions imply their feel as characters.
I was in charge of all the designs and concept art as well as the animations. I also helped with writing the story.
